Encrypt Text

  1. Open the document or email that contains the text that you would like to encrypt, and select the text.

  2. When you install GPG Tools, it adds new menu items to your Services menu. Control Click or 2 finger click to

  3. The window that appears will show the certificates you can to use to encrypt the message. Click the checkbox next to the certificate(s) you want to use.

If you would like to “sign” the encrypted text (to verify it came from you), or if you would like to be able to decrypt it yourself in the future, you can click the corresponding check boxes at the bottom of the Choose Recipients box and select your key from the drop down menu. You then press OK to begin the encryption process.

  5. This will return you to the recipients window, where you should notice a warning indicating that this is not a certificate you have the private key for, so you will not be able to decrypt the message once it has been encrypted. Click Next.

  6. Once you see this window, the message has been encrypted, and the newly encrypted message is in your clipboard.

  7. At this point just go to your email program, or text editor, or wherever you plan to save the encrypted message, and past the encrypted text from your clipboard.

  8. And you have the text you copied encrypted with the certificate you selected.
